A cautious response to a common question, with realistic functional goals.

In brief

Why does ENT assessment remain essential?

ENT assessment may be needed first. Sleep and tolerance are more realistic goals than guarantees.

01

Tinnitus varies

Tinnitus may be new or longstanding, one-sided or bilateral, constant or pulsatile, with hearing loss, dizziness or noise exposure. Sudden onset especially requires medical and hearing assessment.

02

Possible support goals

After urgent causes are excluded, some people focus on tension, sleep or reducing the noise’s impact. If acupuncture is used, these goals should be explicit; complete disappearance cannot be promised.

03

Seek prompt care

Pulsatile tinnitus, recent one-sided tinnitus, sudden hearing loss, severe vertigo or neurological signs justify rapid medical assessment.
